Yoga can seem intimidating to someone who’s never practiced it before, but anybody can become a yogi. Here are 5 tips to get started on your yoga routine.
- Ease into it
Rather than going full-swing into a week of yoga classes, make a plan to attend just one beginner’s class. Give your body time to adjust before attending another.
- Get a buddy
Having a partner can not only help keep your motivation up during those final pushes in yoga class, but can also help keep you accountable to actually making it to the class.
The hotter it gets, the more your body sweats, and with more sweat comes more electrolytes lost. Make it a point to carry water with you all day before a class, and then bring a bottle to keep beside your mat.
- Dress the part
Students often forget that it’s not sweating that cools the body off, but the evaporation of sweat. Thus, wearing breathable fabrics that allow the body to breathe will help keep you cool. Wearing a cute yet comfortable outfit is also a great motivation to go to class.
- Listen to your body
If class becomes too challenging, or you feel overheated or under-hydrated, take a break. Pushing too far can ultimately slow you down as your body becomes more exhausted. Child’s Pose is always an option for a quick recharge.
